DR SABIR ZAMAN

MBBS BSc (Hons) FRCGP DRCOG PgCert (Med Ed)

Dr Sabir Zaman completed his undergraduate studies at Imperial College London, a world class institute at the cutting edge of medical research. Spending time in both the School of Medicine and Business School, he graduated with degrees in Medicine and Management. He undertook his postgraduate training across North and North East London, joining Strouts Place Medical Centre as a Principal GP (GP Partner) in 2012. He has established himself as a well-respected GP across the region, taking on numerous roles to support both patients and the profession. In 2015 he was elected by his peers to serve a term as Board Member to the Tower Hamlets GP Care Group, and currently sits for a second term on the Tower Hamlets Local Medical Committee (LMC). He is the incumbent Co-Chair of The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) North East London Faculty, and represents North East London at the RCGP National Council. He currently provides leadership for the local Primary Care Network (PCN), having been elected Chair in 2019. He is passionate about both undergraduate and postgraduate Medical Education and Training, and recently spent three years as Clinical Lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, within the Community Based Medical Education Unit (CBME). Here he led on developing the curriculum and overseeing GP education for Final Year medical students, and co-hosted ‘The GP Educator’ podcast. He is an established GP Trainer and NHS GP Appraiser, as well as holding the prestigious role of MRCGP Examiner. He has an interest in Global Health and Policy, and has helped train GPs abroad, as well as providing humanitarian medical aid to displaced migrants in refugee camps around the world. He is currently undertaking a Masters degree in International Primary Health Care at Queen Mary University of London with a view to developing his work on the global stage further. His charitable interests extend to being a Trustee of St Katharine’s Trust, an organisation supporting local communities in Tower Hamlets through sport and engagement. In his spare time he is an avid sports fan, making good use of his Season Ticket at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Above all he values spending time with his family.

DR ANISA AHMED

MUDr MRCGP

Dr Anisa Ahmed undertook her undergraduate studies at Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. This unique experience helped broaden her understanding of healthcare systems across Europe, gain wide ranging clinical experience across various demographics, and develop her linguistic skills. On completion of her studies she returned to the UK to undertake her postgraduate training across Essex. She joined Strouts Place Medical Centre as a Principal GP (GP Partner) in 2016 and quickly established herself as a key member of the team. She has an interest in Women’s Health and Maternity Care, as well as Ear, Nose, and Throat Medicine. She is also a keen Educator, having undertaken training to become a GP Trainer, and helping to support our trainee GPs through their educational journey. In her spare time she has an interest in architectural and interior design, and enjoys spending time with her young family.

DR SAFFAN QURESHI

MBBS BSc (Hons) MRCGP (2015) DGM

Dr Saffan Qureshi graduated from the prestigious University College London (UCL) medical school with clinical distinction. He completed his post graduate training in North East London. He has an interest in elderly care having completed his Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (DGM) from the Royal College of Physicians. In his spare time he is an avid reader of the Western Canon and Classical Arabic literature. When he is not with patients he is either reading Dostoyevsky or Ghazali.

DR TALAT AHMED

MBBS MRCGP PGDipClinDerm (Distinction)

Dr Talat Ahmed studied at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University, University of London. He also studied one premedical year at Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. During his time studying he completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs). This allowed him to apply for further training in the USA. During his time in medical school he spent several months at Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University, Providence, RI, USA on observerships, where he worked on research projects. He completed his GP training in West Essex, UK. He is currently a principal GP (partner) at Strouts Place Medical Centre near Hoxton in Shoreditch, London. He also works in many other NHS roles in the out of hours environment. He was lead for the special allocation scheme (formerly known as the violent patient scheme) for City & Hackney and Tower Hamlets boroughs from 2018-2020. In 2019-2020 he has undertaken extra training in treating addiction problems as well as in Dermatology (Skin medicine). He also has an interest in hair restoration treatment as well as medical education. He is currently leading teaching for 1st year medical students at the practice.

DR JARIN AHMED

MBBS MRCGP (2019)

Dr Jarin Ahmed received her undergraduate degree from Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. She undertook her postgraduate foundation training in the East of England. She then went on to complete her GP training as part of the West Essex Vocational Training Scheme, during which time she worked in General Practice and Hospitals across Essex and Hertfordshire. Having worked for various NHS Trusts, she has gained invaluable experience of health care services across England. Dr Ahmed joined Strouts Place Medical Centre as a Principal GP (GP Partner) in early 2020. She has a keen interest in Medical Education and is part of a team of doctors that are passionate about cultivating future doctors and other healthcare professionals. Throughout her career she has gained indispensable experience in her areas of interest which include Women’s Health, and Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) Medicine​. She also has a keen interest in Mental Health and is the Primary Care Network Clinical Lead for Mental Health Transformation. Away from the workplace she has a talent for baking, enjoys gardening, and most of all values spending time with her family.

DR THI LIEN PHAN

Dr Thi Lien Phan completed her undergraduate medical studies at St George’s, University of London. She went on to undertake her postgraduate training across the East of England, and subsequently worked in various Emergency Departments (A&E) across London and the South East, gaining valuable clinical experience in managing undifferentiated cases. She decided to pursue General Practice as her chosen specialty, and took up a training post on the well-respected Tower Hamlets Vocational Training Scheme (VTS), working in GP Surgeries across the borough as well as the Royal London Hospital. This has provided her with wide ranging clinical experience, and a clear understanding of the needs of the local population. On completion of her postgraduate training she joined Strouts Place Medical Centre as a sessional GP, as well as working regularly in the Strouts Place Hub providing out of hours care. She has particular interests and experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health, Substance Misuse, and Medical Education, having undertaken further training in these areas. She has completed her Diploma from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DFSRH), as well as the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse (Part 1). She is currently expanding her role as a GP Educator, and is working to develop her skills and credentials in this area.

DR SUKHRAJ TIWANA

Dr Sukhraj Tiwana completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Newcastle receiving a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery. During his time at Newcastle, he also obtained a Masters in Research specifically in Neuroscience. He undertook research at the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing with a focus on the potential causes and effects of dementia. Following this he undertook his post-graduate training across North London and West Essex. During this time he also completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations and the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination, which would have allowed him to pursue training in either of those countries. After this he completed his GP training in West Essex, UK. In his last year of GP training, he started a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Dermatology through Queen Mary, University of London. He also works in other NHS roles including out of hours care and Urgent Care Centres across London. He has a particular interest in Dermatology, Rheumatology, Elderly Care medicine and Mental health. After work, he enjoys going to the gym, gardening and cooking.

Margaret leads our nursing team. She is highly qualified, and can deal with a wide range of conditions and health concerns. She undertakes the majority of our chronic disease reviews, including asthma, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. She works closely with our GPs. She also has expertise in providing Travel vaccinations and advice, childhood and adult immunisations, family planning advice, cervical screening, and wound care.

Rupayan is an important member of our team, who works under the supervision of our GPs and nursing team. He undertakes many reviews, and provides our phlebotomy and anti-coagulation services.

Business Manager

Areef is our business manager. As well as running the management aspects of the practice, he will be able to assist you with any administrative problems or queries.

JOHN ISAAC

Engagement Manager

John works alongside the Business Manager and is a point of contact for staff and patient queries and concerns. He also administers the practice complaints procedure. John provides leadership and guidance for all staff in partnership with the Business Manager and has specific supervision role of the Reception team.

Firoza has been with the practice since 2003. She will be happy to help you with any administrative problems or queries.

Patient Care Advisors

Patient Care Advisors provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Social Prescribers

Social Prescribers are based in GP practices across Tower Hamlets to help patients get support with their wider health and wellbeing. Our role is to refer patients to services in the community to support and empower them to improve their health. We have close links with services in the community to help patients with issues effecting their health such as - mental health services, housing advice, benefits support, employment and training, weight management, carers support, bereavement support and many more. We ensure that patients are supported by the services we refer them to by following up with the patients and the services in the community.

RAHANA BEGUM

Rahana joined the Social Prescribing Service Team in May 2019 and ever since she has been supporting patients with their health and wellbeing needs. Working alongside Clinicians’, such as GPs, Nurses, HCA, Health Visitors and other non-clinical staff at the GP practices in Tower Hamlets. She refers and signposts patients to different services in terms of their non-medical issues. Most importantly since the pandemic, they have had to deal with a high number of benefit support and emergency food parcel delivery for the extremely high risk, vulnerable patients. She ensures that patients are supported by the services they refer them to by following up with the patients and the services in the community. She has strong relationships with patients and with the community volunteer services in Tower Hamlets and beyond. Their service and approach are very limitless and that is why she loves her job!
